Coin Flip allows 400% increase in bankroll
Hi all, I'm back with a small poker story that I figured would be entertaining.
After a rough run at Noble Poker, my bankroll was down to $11. So, to try to build it back I entered a $5 - 6 person sit n go (top 2 get paid) First hand the player two to my right goes all in, and it is called by the player next to him. I fold instantly and watch the AK beat out J6 off!!! Ya, somone felt J6 off was good enough to lose $5 over. Anyway, the next hand I'm dealt AK and a different player moves all in in front of me. Well, I'm playing for half my bankroll, but I figured worst case it's a coin flip, best case I have him dominated. So I call. He shows 55, and we're off to the races. King on the turn knocks him out, and I'm sitting pretty tied for the lead in chips and 2 players gone. Needless to say, I was able to win that sng and doubled my bankroll. Since that sng went so well, I played another one. Again, maniacs at this table. They were bluffing 1/2 their chips with middle pair. Amazingly however, all the crazys were able to make it to the final 4 with me. With QJ in my poket and the board Q82, two maniacs were calling my initial bet and raising me on the turn when a 9 hit. Well, I really didn't know where I sat, they could have anything, so I called the final guy down. He showed the middle pair 9 and I took down a key pot. Just goes to show that if you get a read on a player, to trust your instincts. When we were down to 3, I was dealt JJ in the small blind. The short stack on the button made a small raise, but it definately showed a little strength due to his stack size. I'm 2nd in chips but have double the short stack, so I decide that I'll take a shot at taking him out and move all in to try to isolate. To my surprise, the chip leader calls, and the initial raiser must have been smiling as he folded, hopeing I get knocked out. I really didn't expect the call from the big stack, and wasn't really happy about it. Well, he shows KJ off!!!! That was a TERRIBLE call on his part. But still dangerous for me because of that king. Thankfully no king showed and I doubled through. The final hand was interesting as well. A couple hands after my doubling through, I'm dealt 8-10 off. We all see the flop for the minimum. 789 rainbow flops. Giving me middle pair and a open ended straight draw. But wait a sec, both players move all in infront of me. Normally, I fold and let others fight it out, but this case was different. First off, I have 3x both of their chips, so I can afford taking a chance. Also, I have a decent shot at making my straight, and I have middle pair. Third, by me calling I it's very likely one if not both will be knocked out and I'll be in the money. So I take a shot at it and call. Player 1: AK Player 2: Q10 ME: 10 8 Going in I'm a favorite. 48% and they split the other 50% Turn is a Queen. Which makes player 2 a favorite to win. River is an 8!!!! Which gives me 3 of a kind and the WIN. Sad for player 2 though, because he had the lowest chips to start, he finished third and out of the money. So, those two wins allowed me to go from $11 to $44 which is 400% increase!! All of which wouldn't have happend without me winning that initial coin flip. Kinda cool how things can go. |
