Change of venue

I have always either played the rings or SNGs and have played very few large tourneys. To help develop more patience with the game I've decided to focus on large events with many players. I think I'll start this afternoon on Stars, they have a $3 freezeout that had over 1600 players the last time I saw it run. I'm going to force myself to be patient and learn to navigate the large fields.

The only large event I've ever played in was the last forum challenge that had about 1500 folks - and I was ill equipped for this type of game. The drawback to these huge events is you can play for hours and walk away with nothing - but this is a good environment to learn discipline...

That one on Stars is a good tourney, over half the field will be out early, and youll see some crazy bets, so you need to be very selective with the hands you enter on. I had to fold TP,TK on the last one to 2 all-in bets ahead of me. They both were on draws !

Last time I played one, i went out after the 2nd break with no $$, 2 hours of play for nothing ! Good luck Dave, let us know how you get on

BTW, if anyone else knows of a good freezeout that fits my new mode, let me know as I have funds on a wide variety of sites. I will not play rebuys as they are just plain crazy. Played a $10 MTT on poker.com last week and saw a guy rebuy 4 times ($50 invested) in less than 20 minutes - that isn't poker in my book...

Jetset - $5 - $500 guaranteed - 9pm GMT (so 4pm EST - a bit early maybe). I've played 4, cashed in twice (got 3rd when I should have won - in final 3, other big stack all-in with a9, i call with 99, but he hits A). Competition is soft as hell - 50% are women who spend all the time waving and chatting to fellow players (and observers) - top tip, turn chat off!), and all 4 times it's been undersubscribed (usually 75-90 players). Maybe worth looking to see whether they have a later one.

Hey Dave, if you want the big turn out tourneys on Stars you need to get in one at 7 or 9 EST. These are usually the biggest turn outs. And yes be careful. Lots of idiots that will treat it as a free roll. On a litter note the new 20% pay structure there running on these tourneys will have you in the money right around the second break. Good luck with that and don't bet on any 3 legged horses.

Those $20 SnGs are a very, very tight games. If you get in 1 expect to sit for4 to 5 hours to make the money. I played in one the weekend they introduced this. Got out in about 70th and that took 3 and half hours for that.

Played one today at Poker.com and their was almost 5900 registered thought I'd practiced up for the big tourney and try a few different things. LOL Didn't know their was so many idiots out their, dodged the bullet as long as I could ended up 1127. OK got a question a lot of you have played at tables with me shall I change style and become more aggressive at start or just sit back and let them knock their selves out? Play my regular game and be damn careful? Suggestions? Or just sleep in? LOL

Good choice Dave, you can get in a tourney pretty cheap and the payoff can be good, and it is a good way to learn dicipline, although sometimes i forget and play like it is a SNG and POOF i am out. I started 2 years ago playing tourneys every day,,, and every night it was the SNG`s. I cant do that anymore since i got the heart buy-pass,i just get too tired to fast. But on a day when i feel really good, and i mean really, really good, i can get into a game with 1000 ppl and play for 5 or 6 hours, but that hasnt happened lately cause of my health, But I think your making a good choice Dave, and when you get the tourneys down to a science it will Imporve your SNG`games like you wont believe. GL at Stars Dave
