| Bodog and HEM problems I already posted about my HEM problems, now I cant log into Bodog. I will post SS of the pages I get when I try to log on to Bodog and HEM. I am wondering if deleting the programs and reinstalling is an option? HEM and Bodog support have been helpful, but nothing they suggested has worked yet. Bodog just says I have a firewall problem. I dont have a firewall activated. I use the free version of Avira. Its a simple anti-virus. So a picture is woth a thousand words, here are the SS. When I try the "Go there now" at HEM, it says I cant open the page.... |

| Do you have a firewall enabled on your router? Some of the newer routers come with a firewall feature, so that could possibly be the issue. One way you can check this is if you have another computer that you can try to load HEM and Bodog on and see if they load up fine from there. If not, then it could be your router or even possibly your ISP(may want to contact them to see if they have some sort of restrictions). Do you have any sort of restriction software for your kids like NetNanny or anything? Those may block poker/gambling related sites from connecting as well(I have never used these, but thought of the possibility). |

No, I have none of that. The thing is, I am using the same set up I always used. No new installations, no new hard or software....It now wants to tell me my HEM is not activated, and the Bodog issue. 888, pokerstars, Carbon, PKR are all working just like always. |

| re: Bodog and HEM problems poker You could try reinstalling both, but I'm not sure that will help. I'd start with just a Bodog reinstall since that's less hassle compared to a HEM re-install. This kind of outbound blockage is virtually never an external (router) issue, but typically a local PC problem. Usually an over-aggressive local firewall. And Windows Firewall on XP doesn't block any outbound traffic, only inbound, so it shouldn't prevent the client from connecting. Even if the client created a listening socket for inbound traffic, Windows Firewall would prompt for you to allow it (unless it had previously been blocked). It's possible your ISP could be blacklisting specific sites as well, but you said Bodog is the only one blocked, so not likely. Regarding HEM, it will randomly ask for reactivation and if both of your allowed activations are use, it will fail until you reset them. Not sure if that's the problem here, I would think it would tell you that both activations are used instead of the generic error message. It's been awhile since I've seen it do that, so I can't remember. Without access to your PC to run a connection trace, it's hard to give you much else in the way of advice. I guess start with re-installation to at least eliminate the easy fix. |

They asked HEM to stop developing their internal Bodog grabber, and HEM complied. However HEM still works with Idleminer's grabber. |

| There was nothing to reinstate as far as HEM/PT3, because they were never banned -- they've always worked. They were just discouraged, and there was some vague suggestion that they were trying to ban them. Calvin seemed to be of the opinion that tracking software hurts their fish. However it was a dubious discouragement since all they'd have to do is put it in their TOS, and they never did. They did ask HEM to stop development of their internal hand grabber, and HEM did so just to stay friendly with the sites, but there was never an official ban against tracking software. As Bonfli said in that thread, OP was just having some other issue. PTR and such datamining sites, however, are banned and they did take steps to stop them AFAIK. |

| re: Bodog and HEM problems poker There were two times when I had such problems. The first time was when there was a power cut and my PC reset the date/time to the year 2000. The second time turned out to be a problem with UAC in Windows 7, which was resolved by lowering UAC to the lowest setting, making HEM work and then switching UAC back on. |

Only tried it with bodog so far, HEM is, as you probably know, a time consuming affair, if I want to re-import all my hands - which I do. Bodog did not change anything by reinstalling. I still get the same pop up like I posted above |

Aha, thanks Dave!! I guess its worth a try. Didnt work (a delete and re-install) with Bodog, but maybe you can help me here. I use Avira free anti-virus, and cant find a firewall configuration in it. I thought that was because you DONT get a firewall with the free version. Do you know if this is true? And my PC has been acting slow and sluggish for a couple of months now. It is a year old, and I dont want to do a complete re-install, but think I may have registry problems or something, since it is so sluggish, I may be infected somehow. My Avira has found and eliminated a few nasty things, maybe they were able to do some damage before discovery??? I dont have time to do a re vamp of the whole machine, but will have time middle of August, so if I cant come up with a better idea by then, I will try that. I use XP professional, SP2 I bought the XP on ebay and after my first installation got a message that it is an already installed OS, called the guy, he gave me a key that worked, but when I (later) try to update to SP3 I get a message again that my XP is not a valid key, and the ebay guy is gone...lol. I guess I am using a non valid OS, and I paid for it, so that suks. I dont want to go to Windows 7 since I have a few things I cant run on 7, and I like XP anyway. Vista suks so bad so even tho I have it I erased it fast, and wont go back there. HEM suggested I update to SP3, but I cant (yet, a friend says there is a way around, but he aint got time to help me). But everything worked fine for almost a year with this system as it is, so I guess I need to do a day and re format my HD and re install the works... I hate it but I am sure that will work, but as you know, it is a REAL PAIN, so if you have any suggestions, I am all ears. (Literally, I must post a pic someday...lol) And gratz, BTW Dave!!!! I read the thread! |

| re: Bodog and HEM problems poker I would try disabling Avira first to see if that will do anything. If you do that, and are still having the problems then we can rule out that program. If you do have some sorts of virii or malware on your computer, it could be that they are blocking some ports. I would try to run AVG or Avast Antivirus as well to see if they pick up anything extra. Many times one A/V will pick up some things that another won't, so it might just be that Avira isn't seeing something |

| No, Avira free doesn't come with a firewall unless they added one since I last used them several years ago. If you think you might have malware, download and install Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) and run that until you get a clean scan. Avira's pretty good for virii but doesn't do much for some other types of malware. MBAM is not an AV and will run alongside Avira. But you never want to run two AV's concurrently, so if you want to try AVG (not really recommended these days IMO) or something else, uninstall the other one first. One of the best free AVs in terms of overall detection rate and system resource utilization is actually Microsoft's Security Essentials. I use it on all of my free installations. Norton 2009 or better is IMO the best commercial AV on the market (unlike older Norton versions, which were the worst), and I keep that on all my paid installations. Short of a format, you could also try a repair install of XP, which reinstalls the OS over its existing folder and does not format the drive. You lose your Windows Updates, overwrites system files, and it reinitializes some OS-specific parts of the registry. However if you don't have a valid activation key, then that would be a problem, as it does require reactivation. Always beware buying software on eBay. I wish I were near you, because if this were strictly a network problem I could likely diagnose it for you with a Wireshark trace or something. It's a derail, but on the OS subject: Personally, I'd use and recommend Vista any day over XP, provided you have the machine to support it (3GB+ RAM basically). I hated XP with a passion and from about 9 months after Vista was released (after most of the killer release bugs were fixed), I had upgraded all of my Windows machines and never looked back. Only had XP at work until we got Win7, and I despised having to work on XP. The Vista hate never made sense to me, other than from those who were promised Vista would run well on a 1-2GB PC (and I could understand their anger). Most everybody else were just jumping on the bandwagon without fully understanding (or being totally ignorant) about what they didn't like about it. I know tons of people who felt the same as I about it (loved it compared to XP). But Win7 is even better. You must be using some really old and very specific software if it won't work with Win7, but you could most likely run an XP VM (or Win7's XP Mode if you got Pro or Ultimate) just for running that software. |

| Yea, I wasn't meaning to install it parallel to another A/V and was just giving some examples of other free ones. I also use Norton and think in it's state right now is the best. Used to be an enormous resource hog in the XP and even Vista years. Plus it's nice I get it for free through Comcast . To go along with your derail. I agree with the bandwagon people. The only thing that I personally hated about Vista(and also 7) is UAC, but that is because I know what I'm doing on my system and don't need a reminder telling me. But on both, it can easily be turned off and I'm fine. But as a whole, I really liked both Vista and 7. |
