Bad Play? or just bad luck

Hi,

I recently busted out of a big tourny ON THE FIRST HAND.

Dealt AJ.

Preflop raised 2xBB and was re-rased the same amount by one player. I called and seen the flop heads up. AJ3 rainbow flopps.

I check raise all-in and am called by AK.

(King on the turn)

And my 2 pair is killed. Early exit for me.

What you guys think?

That's pretty unlucky only a few cards could have beaten you and the king was one of them.

Did a odds calc on cardplayer.com -- Looks like I was an 80% favorite.

i dont think it was a bad play. the other player just got lucky and hit his money card on the turn. Since it was a tournament, i think the A/K shouldnt have risked all his chips early on and should have figured you had at least 2 pair and not just A/x. i doubt you'd make a play so early on in the game.

however, if i had A/J and there was a raise and reraise before me, warning bells would have told me that they could have high pocket pair or be drawing with a better A/x. so, i think a fold there would have been a good move as well.

the all in was a good move since you didnt want anyone drawing luck. the other player just happened to get lucky...thats all.

two pair should have been enough

u know if u dident bet he whould have with the A, and u whould have called and then he whould have 2 pair AK and u have AJ's and he whould go all in and u whould have to call... so any wich way u whould have been F**cked

I had the same type situation happen this week. Saw AQo in early position raised 3XBB, flop As,Qs,rag for 2 pr on flop... I called All in, since it was a Turbo tourney, I was called by JJo, one spade, guess what happened??

RUNNER RUNNER SPADES - he hit the flush and puts me out. What dip-shit (Nick, let me know if I can or cannot use explitives) calls with JJ when there are TWO over pair on the board with a backdoor flush draw??

Once again I ask the question, IS THIS MY LIFE??!!!

Calling with JJ in that spot is insane. That's a fish play if ever I seen one, looked down at the pocket pair and couldn't let it go.

I think you made the right move but the raise would have made me think a-x or big slick. And in a trny like David Sklansky writes you,re broke you,re done he's broke he's done.

when you raised pre flop and got reraised, you had to ask yourself what is this guy playing....lets say you both played this hand card by card...never being all in. flop brings aj3...he bets.....you raise.....what do you think he has at this point. is it possible he has AA,JJ,KK or 33 in the hole, you could get rid of 33 because thats not exactly a raising hand, but if he has any of the above its game over for you. guys playing KK will still bet away in hopes that you missed, guys playing AA or JJ may slow play to induce a bet. In online play where the action is fast and all it takes is one click, I probably would have done the same thing but the key to tournaments is survival, you cannot win if you are not playing. In your case it was AK that busted you, and that may have been a little unlucky on your part, but there were more unseen K's than there were A's and J's. I think you were unlucky but after the flop there is still 2 more cards coming.

1) looking from position when you got ur 2 pairs.. its was good idea to reraise.. but you shouldn't go all in so early in tournament..

2) you shouldn't play AJ even suited if you been reraised.. AJ is not that good hand after all

3) you should play only JJ QQ KK AA in early start of tourney + all times when you don't have to call anything( being in big blinds if not reraised)

so its was bad luck+ poor game

i wouldnt of checked raised there i might of bet strong or even went all in on the flop, if he calls its a bad play on his part and bad luck for u, but it will rarely happen that his 3 outs will hit.
