AQ and shortstacked $3 rebuy (very loose before the break, but has tightened up since with the bubble coming up) I have no reads on the opponent, he seems to be one of the semi-loose semi aggressive average players here I hadn't had a hand in a long while and was so happy when i looked down to see AQ...that is before this guy open raised all in UTG(i think) as it turns out i folded...but just wanted to know what you guys would have done in this situation and what you put him on? the next hand i doubled up with JJ vs. AK all in, so i wasn't too down about having to pass up that AQ

Crazy move that almost certainly puts him on a low pair like 22-55. He quite obviously doesnt want a call, and is happy to risk 10k to win 1200 There isnt much point putting your tournament on a coinflip I would imagine I am 50/50 at best and fold the hand AQ is a much better hand to be aggressive with, rather than having to call bets with, especially when this many chips are involved

re: AQ and shortstacked poker Its a nice fold, obviously your opponent has a PP or AK and doesnt want callers, plus the fact someone has more chips then him and thus can eliminate him means he is somewhat sure of his hand . You still have 7800 or so chips , So you could wait a little, depending on when blinds go up and pick a better spot , steal some blinds and try to be the one pushing and showing aggression ^_^

Thats an instant fold Chuck. You don't need to go to war with this guy holding AQ. Personally i wouldn't even bother myself with wondering what he had, in this case i would forget about the hand within seconds of it happening apart from noting his somewhat irrational all-in. But as you asked, and with the same information that you have, i would see myself putting him on KK, QQ, or JJ. I would have to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. You also have to remember AQ is a coin flip at best even up against pocket pairs such as 66, 77, 88, and 99 and a slight dog with regards to the latter two. You did the right thing in my opinion, it really is best not to risk your whole stack that late into a tournament with a hand only slightly better than marginal. zinzan1000 be lucky

Oh and by the way Chuck, if he was blind stealing because of the bubble, so what, let him risk his whole stack doing it. If he continued that type of play, then its only a matter of time before he gets caught with his pants around his ankles and his little dinky on show for all to laugh at zinzan1000 be lucky |
