Advice?

Hey Everyone, I'm about to embark on a live Texas Hold em Tournament for charity. It will have 150 participants and 1st prize is $5000. It's my first live Texas Hold em Tournament with more than 20 particpants I was wondering if any of you could give me words of wisdom or advice of any kind that would help me.

I would offer that you try to keep in mind that it's still just poker, only in a different environment than you're accustomed to. Just play your game. Try to relax and have fun. Play tight early, because these charity events always draw a lot of weak players who don't spend much time on their games. Pick your spots. Open up later on when the competition gets tougher. Good luck! I believe you'll do well.

Rammer knows what he's talking about! Listen to him. Just play your best game. Don't try too many moves too early. Build the stack but only with solid hands in the beginning. Start whipping some moves out deeper into the tournament. Good luck!

I agree w the advice from rammer, you will have alot of inexperienced players and no doubt alot that will go all in w hardly a hand, and get lucky on the RIVERRRRR, so beware, tight at first, and loosen up further into the game. Happy gaming!!

i would advice you to play a bit conservative. Just kick back and wait for some good hole cards. Play your cards as well as the players asswell. Thorw in some bluffs and the most important thing you will need is LUCK!!

It's in Middleboro. It's for the Middleboro Youth Sports Association. It starts at 7pm on June 17th.

Totally off-topic (with apologies to the webmaster) but I spent a brief stint as a Store Manager for ECCO shoes. Travelled up to Wrentham for a week of training, up to Loudon, NH, for a visit to the corporate office, and over to Beantown for a once-in-a-lifetime (for a Southern boy) St. Patty's Day dinner and pub crawl. I really enjoyed MA. We must get all of your outcasts and odd jerks down here on vacation, because everyone up there was super nice during my trip.

Oh. That's tonight. I've got the kids while the wife, Combusto Broad, is out of town for the weekend with her friends, celebrating Fathersday. Too bad, Middleboro's only about an hour away. Good luck and let me know next time you do another. A friend of mine had a tournament last February in Danvers to raise money for his daughters softball league. It went well.

P.S.- Glad you were treated so well here 'Jammer. The odds of that were 220:1. The odds of it happening if you try it again will still be 220:1.
