2-7 and Badugi on PS

Lotsa fun.

Don't know what I'm doing yet, but I'm gettin there. Badugi is just plain crazy.

Any tips on these games?

Even though you have 3 draws, only play quality starting hands, and don't really try and bluff much. Also note that badugi has high variance and be braced for some beats lol.

well,,i alwas use the rule,,,if you have throw more then 2 cards away,fold the hand,i will add this,just in case you don't know the game that good 23457 is one of the best aces and straits are no good ,,,you probably know that,,,but help is help and gl

In badugi you should try to start with 3 low card (<8 ) of different suits in EP and MP. You can open your range a bit in LP but not too much. Shorthand you can open it up a little more. Position is very important in badugi. You will have alot more info in LP. You can see not only if people are betting check or raising but how many card they are drawing. This gives you a very good idea where your at in hands. Other than that I am still learning myself but if you play other lowball games it seems pretty easy to move to badugi.

Badugi is pretty crazy. There is a lot of variance in that game. I think standard strategy is a hand is playable of you have 2 cards A-5 or three cards A-7.

this is just more to the point that people have no idea how to play badugi...ur right it is the best hand when ur playing 2-7 lowball, but not in badugi

poker is constant learning, and new games such as this (actually not so new, been playing this for quite some time), only strengthen that point. READ about it, learn the basics, then start searching forums, asking more questions, that way you have a base to build from.

and more importantly you will find out which advice is good to follow and which is talking about a completly different game

Actually, I never played 7-2 Single draw before two days ago when I got into one of PokerStars Freerolls. Didn't have a clue, but using pretty much the above rules, managed to finish 54th and win a seat in a 2000 dollar freeroll tomorrow. It was fun.

Have tried Badugi (how the heck is that pronounced?) the same way twice now and managed to get get past the first break the second time around. Still have no clue exactly what I'm doing, but think the main idea is to ignore card values and just try to get one card of each suit.

Ah well, somebody will write a book about it one of these days, I suppose. My money is on Negreanu, 'cause I think he's the only one nuts enough to get into this game.

BTW, I was reviewing some WSOP bracelet holders information. What the heck is/was Chinese Poker? Anybody have a clue?

If you have a good hand (especially early in the betting rounds) you want to thin the field by betting &/or raising at every opportunity. Free cards/draws are a no-no.

If you are dealt three cards to a Badugi, you will only hit your will draw 48% of the time (after drawing three times.) Your chance of hitting your hand gets worse on each drawing round. Make sure the pot odds warrant drawing/chasing.

As in most poker games, position is important. The closer you are to the button, the looser you can be with your preflop starting hand standards.

Dealing with frustration is crucial in Badugi. Having three cards to a Badugi and missing the fourth card on all three draws can drive anyone bonkers. Emotional / Tilt control is key.

Badugi is a game that offers some great bluffing opportunities, especially when playing shorthanded. Note: the more people there are at the table, the more likely someone holds a Badugi. Bold bluffs are not advisable at a full table and/or in multiway pots. It’s best to reserve you bluff attempts for pots that are heads up.

Drawing on the last round against an opponent who is standing pat is generally a mistake. Cut your losses and move onto the next hand.

Anything worse than an eight low Badugi (e.g. 8c-7d-6h-4s) probably isn't worth paying off a big bet @ show down (especially against a player who understands the game.) Although, if you’re playing limit, you’ll usually want to call a single bet with most/any made Badugi hand.

2-7 single draw tournaments is one of the better games to play IMO. You get a lot of people at the lower blinds who have no clue on how to play. It gives you a great time to build your stack up. If you know anything about the game you can usually do well in tourneys.
