1st Live Game

I played in my first live poker tourney today, and lost, lol. $40 buy-in and there were only 7 of us on the tourney anyway. I was the second one out ...lol, but I had fun.

The biggest mistake I made was I was in the Big Blind one time and it was on me and I folded 4-5 offsuit, when I should have checked. they wouldn't even let me skate, they took the fold. the flop came A-4-4.....ccan you believe this!!!! Talk about losing, anyway, I had fun and maybe I'll play again someday.

It's always the same with the 'first experience'.... Strange feeling in the stomac etc. Cheer up and get used to this kind of poker because it's very different to on-line poker.

Also check your tells because as soon as somebody can 'read you' it will be a though game for you.
Maybe you read some kind of tell-book (e.g. read 'em and read 'em from Phill Helmuth and that nice FBI agent....) so that you're aware this is a substantial factor in live tournaments

Ya, if it wasn't raised to you, I think you need to learn the word "check". I don't mean to make anyone feel bad, it is all a learning experience. Just make sure not to make some silly mistakes in the future. Trust me it will improve your game a bunch.

Don't feel bad, my first time playing poker was at a B&M casino. I sat down and about 3 hands in I get A3, I call and the board comes 2-4-5 rainbow. This is limit and I didn't know if the Ace could be played low and high.

I asked the dealer if I could ask him a question, he said NO, not during the hand. I asked if I could ask a question to a player not in the hand, he said no so I folded. I felt sick after I found out later what I had done.

Don't worry it only gets better.

One thing that I read a while ago (can't recall who said it) was to not look at your cards tilkl it is your turn to act. This allows you to watch the other action and also prevents you from giving away your tells while you are waiting for your turn. I have stuck to this practice. When I am under the gun I look at my cards as they are dealt to me. That is the only time.
