FLHE for the next while

ChuckTs @ 4:59 am

Well once again I apologize to all (or any, rather) of my readers for not updating my half of the blog for so long. Things in my personal life have been all over the place, and I haven’t had much to write about up until recently. Me and my would-be roommate ended up having a lot more trouble finding jobs than we’d originally thought, and obviously haven’t gotten an apartment yet with no income to pay the bills. We ended up getting some help at a youth employment center, and can hopefully have an apartment and a place by January, if not sooner. On top of all this, I ended up missing some classes in my college course and have been viciously trying to catch up with what I missed.

Moving out!

ChuckTs @ 8:42 pm

I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my personal life, but I’ve been kind of in a depressed state for a while now, and thought I’d let you in on what’s happening in my life. The depression I’m talking about isn’t so much the ‘life sucks’ type, more like a big rut.

Taking a look back, I basically narrowed my career options by failing to get university-sufficient grades in high school and have been kind of wandering aimlessly since. I have been working on and off with small jobs, the biggest being the landscaping that I do in the warmer seasons, and playing poker and/or drinking with friends on my spare time. As I’m sure you can imagine, being cooped up in my mother’s house doesn’t help. She’s reacting to my idleness just as you would expect, with constant nagging and all that fun stuff. She’s not so much trying to get me out of the house as she is trying to get me to go to school and get a career going.

The more you learn, the harder it gets

ChuckTs @ 10:07 pm

Well like the title says, it seems to me the more you learn about poker, the more complicated and difficult it gets. I can’t seem to find the post, but a while ago a member posted a slightly tongue-in-cheek stereotypical timeline of an aspiring poker player’s career, and I loved it because it was so true. It listed several “Played too loose, tightened up”, and “Played to tight, loosened up” turning points, as well as the occasional “Went on winning streak, thought he was the next Phil Ivey” and “Lost entire bankroll, decided never to play again, only to return the next week” type entries. It couldn’t have applied to my poker ‘career’ more perfectly.

I’m back (again)

ChuckTs @ 5:07 pm

Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you readers, but I’m back again :)

A while back, I contacted Nick and let him know I wasn’t going to blog anymore. I had several reasons, but mainly it was because I wasn’t playing as much poker, and hence didn’t have much to write about for the blog. Even when I was (trying) to write, I seemed to hit a writer’s block and didn’t have any ideas.

Now I’m not saying I’m back for good - I can’t guarantee I’ll have interesting ideas/experiences to write about every day, but I’ll do my best to keep my side of the blog updated as much as possible.

June 9, 2007

ChuckTs @ 10:02 pm

With work and school keeping me busy, I wouldn’t expect to have the time to play much poker, but for whatever reason this month I’ve been playing a lot more than I’d expected. I’ve already played 40+ STTs, and 50 tournaments in total.

PC build almost done!

ChuckTs @ 3:48 am

May’s now gone and done with, and all I can say is that I hope June amounts to half as good of a month as May was. Not only was my month great in general, but I ran very well too. I ended up just short of $600 in profits through about 70 games with a very hefty %40 ROI.

Enter Buddha-Chuck.

ChuckTs @ 9:04 pm

May’s been very good to me, for several reasons. For one, I’ve been working a lot by my standards (~40 hour weeks), and for the first time in months I don’t feel like a complete slob. I was playing hockey and doing a little bit of running in the winter, but to be honest I was an absolute sloth. No job, hadn’t seen the light of day before noon in ages, and I would play poker and/or video games for 5 hours minimum. That summed up my daily routine, pretty much. Now, I wake up and work all day until I’m to the point of exhaustion, get home and eat my 5th meal of the day, then play a couple hours of poker, and of course I sleep like a baby.

Confidence can mean everything

ChuckTs @ 3:07 am

I’ve been sticking to my goals and playing a lot more this month in comparison to the last few months. I’d been on a really hot streak before that, stopped playing, and now with my return to playing I’ve been running just as hot, if not hotter.

Without ranting on, here are my stats for the month so far (which don’t even include the CCCoP omaha event win):

PT stats

Spreadsheet stats

Even with my terrible run on the $6.50s (experimenting with multitabling, won 1, lost 9), I’m still keeping %70 ROI. Fantastic, and completely unsustainable :D.

Crackdown, winning and whining.

ChuckTs @ 8:29 am

Not much goin on today; I picked up the new xbox game ‘crackdown’, and it is pretty much the most fun I’ve ever had in a game. It’s kind of like a mix between grand theft auto, and spiderman. You’re a genetically modified ‘agent’ and basically your job is to rid Pacific City of three gangs. The real fun comes in when you realize how strong you are, and you start jumping across buildings and tossing just about anything over 300 feet at the bad guys. The jumping literally gives me that roller coaster feeling in my stomach sometimes - I do have a fear of heights, but it’s soooo fun.

Observe

ChuckTs @ 10:48 am

Me and my brother had quite a fun night tonight; there wasn’t much going on in terms of people going to bars or parties, so we decided to grab a nice bottle of gin (unfortunately beefeater) and play some NHL 2K6 on the ol’ playstation 2 instead. A few hours later, I’m still not asleep and so I decided to just look around online for a while, and I stumbled across one of those poker sites where they sell some lesser-known pro’s instructional videos.
