Watching the WSOP Reruns

Fredrik Paulsson @ 11:29 pm

We arrived Tuesday night and spent just about all of yesterday sleeping. Me because I’m lazy, and Lori because she has a bad cold. The time I’m awake I’m spending mostly by the TV, where I get to watch the Colbert Report, which - as opposed to The Daily Show - doesn’t air in Sweden. Stephen Colbert is a funny, funny man.

Anyway.

I’m also watching, and this has become a bit of a Christmas tradition for me now, the 2006 WSOP Main Event reruns on ESPN. It’s fun to watch, but… I don’t know. Either it’s getting worse, or I’ve gotten better (or a likely combination of the two) but there’s very little instructional value in watching these reruns. You get some colorful personalities who will gamble it up, the cameras like to zoom in on the “all-in moments” (brought to you by Verizon, or something) and then there’s the occasional interesting hand. But they’re few and far apart.

You can learn a thing or two about how not to play a hand, I suppose, but other than that it’s for entertainment value only. Except that Daniel Negreanu seems like a nice guy; I guess I’ve learned that as well.

FullTilt Poker has a weird thing where they only allow their bonus points store to deliver to US and Canada, so I had placed an order for Phil Gordon’s Little Green Book to my in-laws a month and a half ago, but it hasn’t shown up. I checked the receipt, and sure enough, I put in the wrong address and shipped it to #3180 instead of #3780. Oops. Unfortunate, but not a disaster. I’m going book-shopping tonight at the Maplewood Mall here in Oakdale and I can probably pick it up there. Oh, and we’re probably headed to Applebee’s for dinner. Yum!

I’m planning to pick up a few other books while I’m here, too. I’ve been curious about Chan’s limit hold ‘em book - anyone read that yet? The reason I’m picking up books here is because the dollar’s so low that basically everything’s a bargain.

Lori’s bothering me about having to leave now, so that’s that!

More trip reports of the cold-but-not-very-snowy Minnesota coming up in a few day’s time.

/Fredrik
