October Push Halftime

Fredrik Paulsson @ 9:23 am

First two weeks of October done with, and I’ve managed to scrape together a little over 9k hands, a little short of the 10k I had hoped for. Still, I wasn’t fully expecting to be able to be on target, and honestly - not having played enough hands is a far cry better problem to have than running bad. And I’ve won money consistently this month, for which I’m very happy. November, I’ll try to play all month at 3/6 and keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll do as well then as I have so far this month.

I’ve taken up a new habit as well, that has really helped me: I’ve started sitting down with random amounts of money. That way, I won’t know every minute how much I’m up or down (or in fact if I’m up or down at all). I think I’ve been making some weird mistakes based on some idea of “catching up” or “protecting my winnings” and not actually knowing how I’m doing is helping tremendously with that. It’s now a whole lot easier to start or stop my sessions based on how much time I should spend playing, rather than trying to get unstuck, or leaving a good game because I don’t want to lose what I won. If you have the same problem I have, this is a really convenient solution.

When a session is done I do what Lori and I now call “the lottery” which is opening the Ring Game Stats for PokerTracker and finding out if I’ve won or lost. It’s fun! Admittedly, it might be even better to do the lottery only once a week, but since I - usually - only play one session a day, a bad result (or large win) one day doesn’t really carry over any feelings to the next. It would be a bigger problem if I knew how I was doing and was planning to play again an hour later or so.

Anyway, it’s time for Sunday brunch. On the menu today: Sausages (chipolatas) and hash browns. Yum!
