Sometimes The Swing Goes Up

Fredrik Paulsson @ 9:38 am - Filed under Poker General.

As some of you may know, I’ve been travelling extensively lately, and now it finally seems as if that’s going to calm down a bit. I’m still swamped at work, and I still have very little time left over in general, but I’m seeing the elusive light in the tunnel now, at least. I do have a few more trips coming up, but it’s not going to continue to be an intercontintal business trip every three weeks. Thank god.

Because of the travelling, I haven’t gotten a chance to play very much lately. Hotel rooms in China do have internet access, but the ping against the Costa Rica based servers is so high that it’s generally annoying to play. However, having been home for about two weeks now, I’ve done my best to work myself back into the game, and it’s gone well. Very well. In fact, so well that I’m not under any assumption that my winnings are solely due to good play - I’m running hot. I’m not complaining though, and I’ll happily run hot forever, if luck will have it so. Yay for hot streaks!

I’ve also learned quite a lot during the summer, and I have a whole bunch of areas of my game that I want to improve. Specifically, I’m going to fold more often, both on the flop, the turn and the river. Folding on the river is widely considered a no-no in limit hold ‘em, but I’m not sure I want to be the one who pays the bill to keep my opponents honest. I’ll try to let someone else do that from now on.

Now I’m going to try to figure out how to spend my Saturday. Likely away from the tables; I think a walk downtown to visit a bookstore feels like a good way to spend my day.
