Swingy

I’m once again reminded why I really would never want poker as my primary income. The swings are sickening. So sick.

Now, you may get the idea that I’ve recovered from the first half of the graph - but you’d be wrong. I’ve played half of these hands at 5/10, and the other half at 3/6. Guess which half contained the downswing? Heh. And then came the hot air at 3/6, where I, for instance, outdrew one guy’s AA on the river twice in three minutes. Poor fella, I know what he feels like. My session today was insane, too. Not just that I hit my draws, but also that I actually paired up on the flop with my A-x and K-x hands, or - when I missed - my opponent folded to my continuation bet. That’s the exact opposite of what happened at 5/10 two days ago.

Anyway. I’m not comfortable complaining about downswings or bad beats, because I accept them as part of the game - and quite frankly, you’ve all had bad beats as well, so why would you care to hear about mine? I’m mostly just making an observation about how ridiculously swingy limit hold ‘em can be. Meanwhile, I hear NL is much more profitable and much less variance.

Why is it that I don’t play no-limit again? Oh yeah, I suck at it. I forgot.

I read somewhere recently that “Limit players suck at no-limit and complain that they don’t understand it. No-limit players suck at limit and complain that it’s retarded.” Sounds about right.
