Here I Go Again

Fredrik Paulsson @ 3:46 pm - Filed under Poker General.

FP’s on the move again; back to Beijing I go. I’m actually posting this from the train, the ride between Linköping (where I live) and Copenhagen, Denmark (where the flight leaves from). I have another hour to spend on this train, so blogging felt like an appropriate way to spend my time. Yay for Swedish Railways (SJ!) and how they’ve installed wireless internet in their cars.

It’s a bit unfortunate, or at the very least ironic, that my fellow blogger Chuck ran into a cold streak immediately after my posting. I promise, Taylor, it’s not my fault! But you’ll fight your way out of it, bounce back, maybe even go on an amazing hot streak only to be shot down and feel like crap again. Sometimes I wonder if this game’s really worth it. It’s brutal.

This time I’ll be in Beijing for a week, then come back home for a week, and then go back to Beijing for another 10 days. Travelling this much sucks the life out of you, and the only thing that I have going for me right now is that I’ve managed to plan these trips in advance, meaning that I now have the luxury of knowing when I’ll be in the country. One of the hardest things to deal with has been when friends ask me if I’m available for next weekend and I have to tell them that I don’t know. But now I know and that makes it easier.

But you’re not here to read about my personal life (or are you? scary thought), you’re here to read about poker. So let’s talk poker.

With me, as my travel literature for this trip, I have No Limit Hold ‘em - Theory and Practise (Ed Miller and David Sklansky). I mentioned this book in an earlier post, and I’m about halfway through right now. Being an unexperienced NL player, this book is slightly intimidating to me. I understand the theory behind it, but some of these things seem really overwhelming to me, and I have a lot of stuff to learn. Or rather, I have a lot of stuff to learn how to use practically. I have no problems understanding what I’m reading, not at all - it’s putting the pieces together at the table that I need to work on, and specifically putting them together before I run out of time.

But it’s a highly inspirational book. Once I’m done with it altogether, I’ll let you know what I thought. Perhaps I’ll be inspired enough to make a somewhat-permanent switch from limit to no-limit.

Here’s to hoping Chuck regains what he’s lost and that his confidence finds its way back home,

FP
