Pirates

The educational value of this blog has gone down a bit lately. It’s time to rectify that.

Do you know where the word “pirate” comes from? I bet you don’t. So here it is:

It comes from the greek word “peirates,” meaning “he who dares to try.” It is related to the word “empirical” (”empeiras” - learning from trying, or knowledge from experience) .
