———-

I don’t play in a lot of these events, but during the London meet-up, Liam bugged me about it, and I decided that I should probably try to find the time a bit more often. So yesterday, on a whim, really, I sign up for the $10 buy-in Sunday night tournament at Stars. In fact, on enough of a whim that I was one of the late registrations; the tournament had already started when I got there. But it was fun to play in the tournament. Tom McEvoy was a guest on this Sunday, but we never sat at the same table. He had the chip lead at one point, apparently, but was knocked out when there were three-or-so tables left. I didn’t keep close tabs.

I parlayed my way to the final table by doing some selective bluffing and stealing and got there with a just above average stack. From that point on, however, I became Mr. Steal. The final table went from 9 to 5 in a reasonable time, but then we sat there with five people for quite awhile. This, in fact, was good for me. I was the big stack at that point, and this gave me lots of time to just keep stealing. By the time we were down to 3 people, the stacks looked like this:

Seat 1: ttbud (17854 in chips)
Seat 4: aloevera (19289 in chips)
Seat 6: FPau (84357 in chips)

… with the blinds at 1500/3000 and the ante at 300.

I knocked out ttbud with 82o vs. A7o (rivered straight, obviously)  and then sat with a 5:1 chip lead advantage over Aloe, who had the unfortunate job of trying to fight back versus someone who raises her all-in every hand, which was my game plan at that point. She didn’t adjust quickly enough and folded the first three hands of heads-up play, which put her down to 12k in chips and my chip lead at 10:1. She doubled up at some point, dwindled down to 10k again, then doubled up again and then…

  2. Very nice job FP. So, did ya decide to take the book, even though it’s in English? I somehow recall Jane asking about that. :)
