New PC on the way!

ChuckTs @ 8:37 pm - Filed under Poker General.

Well I’m officially a hermit-nerd.

I’ve already spent (or blown, depending on how you look at it) well above 2K, mostly from poker winnings, on my TV, xbox 360 and a sh*tload of games for my ps2 and 360.

I’ve now decided to treat myself once more with a new PC. I was going to buy a dell or hp or some pre-built system, but I researched a bit and decided to build my own! It’s going to set me back from $1300-1500 depending on where I get my components, but considering what I’m putting inside it, it would have cost me about double that had I bought it pre-built.

Asus P5B motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Corsair 2×1G DDR2-667 memory
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB
Seagate 320GB Barracuda
Lite-On 20x DVD-RW
Seasonic S12+ 550W
and a no-name case

Believe me, all that sounded like jibberish to me a couple weeks ago, but I’ve looked into it and have a pretty good idea of what to get and where. To put it all in perspective, this build will cost a good chunk less than most of Dell’s XPS gaming series desktops, but will have better specs in every respect. I should be able to play any new game that comes out for a year or so on full settings (crysis, here I come!), and run multiple applications at the same time without any lag.

I think the most fun part will actually be putting the whole thing together, and knowing every time that I boot it up that I built the damn thing! I’ve already bought the power supply and the case, and will probably grab the motherboard by the end of the week. Gonna be a fun little project; I thought I’d just let you guys know where I’m blowing all my money.

I realize I haven’t posted an actual poker-related blog entry in a while, and I apologize as this is a poker blog after all. I’ve been working like a dog, and have also had school to attend (I’ve been so tired I’ve slept through two of four classes so far). Not much time for poker, but such is life. No more bumming around at home all day for me. The only games I’ve really been able to play have been the CCCoP series, and to my pleasure have done quite well in them. I’m hoping I can get my poker goals done by the end of the month, but with work and school I really can’t see how I’ll find the time.
