Spaniard Wins Women’s Tourney
There used to be a time, way back in the last century, when you couldn’t find enough female poker players to organize a poker game, much less a huge poker tournament.
And even if you did somehow find some women who could play poker, the chances that they were good players were slim.
How those times have changed.
Fifty of the top female poker players in Europe recently competed in an online poker tournament, and when it was all over, the last woman standing was poker pro Maria Maceiras of Spain.
The championship round of the inaugural European Women’s Poker Tournament, sponsored by online poker site Everest Poker (www.everestpoker.com), concluded last month.
To qualify for the tourney, 185 top female poker players from across Europe took part in live offline tournaments organized in the Everest Poker Netherlands, Everest Poker Italy, Everest Poker France, Everest Poker Germany and Everest Poker Spain in March.
The top 10 finalists in each of those five qualifying events were then invited to compete in the all-female poker tournament finale online.
The winner of the finale, MarĂa Maceiras, had recently been selected to be part of the Spanish Everest Poker Team.
She is scheduled to particpate in several other offline and online tournaments as she represents Everest Poker at national and international poker tournaments.
