How’s poker been going for me? In a word: “eh.”

I’ve been getting my ass handed to me in NL. Given that I’m so new to this I can’t gauge how much of this is me sucking and how much of it is expected variance. I know that serious parts of it is me sucking, though. However, the sucking has gone down a bit lately when I’ve picked up some ideas for how to handle certain situations (hi, pot control).

On the other hand, I’ve been crushing 1/2 LHE in a way I didn’t think previously possible. By this I don’t mean that I’ve set some record win-rate, because I’ve run much hotter than this before, but over the past 6k hands I’ve actually maintained a 2+BB/100 win-rate while losing more than half the showdowns. I used to think that wasn’t possible. But I’ve learned so much in the way of stealing and aggression lately that I can pick up lots of pots unimproved, while simultaneously reading hands well enough that I don’t blindly barrel off when I’m doomed to get called down.

So, I’m crushed by NL and crushing limit. All-in-all, I believe I’ve lost $30 in the last month which is really an OK fee to pay to learn how to beat $25NL.
